Beinn Mhanach is one of the remotest mountains in the Southern Highlands. The hike started off with amazing views of Beinn Dòrain and the scenic walk-in along Auch Glen is delightful!! It was a beautiful sunny autumn’s day which made the hike so much more enjoyable!! I reached the base of Beinn Mhanach after an hour and a half. The very steep and relentless climb, was for me, one of the main highlights of the day, as well as reaching the actual summit.
It was fascinating to see the other side of Beinn Dòrain, the huge conical peak that dominates the A82!! You do not see much of Loch Lyon from the summit (main picture), so I very briefly walked along the ridge to see the loch and the views were spectacular yesterday!! Took a short detour to visit the Munro top Beinn a’Chùirn where I was rewarded with views of Auch Glen! When trying to descend from the top, I was surrounded by steep slopes. The easiest and safest way off the top is to retrace your steps back to the bealach.
The 3hrs descent and walk-out was a long tedious slog. There was less light therefore the views weren’t as good and not as many photogenic opportunities. Needless to say, I was feeling it on my legs near the end of the 16 mile hike and just wanted to get back to the car. However, it was actually a better day than what I anticipated and reminded me again how beautiful the Bridge of Orchy hills are!
