Camping in Scottish Highlands

One of my main highlights in 2021 was wild camping for the first time. During summer conditions, I camped at about 25 locations around the highlands but rarely at the same place twice. Pitched tent at popular places such as Torridon, Glen Nevis, Glen Coe, Glen Etive, Glen Affric and Glen Lyon. As well as Loch Morlich, Loch Creran, Loch Maree and Loch Ericht.
My pop-up tent is certainly worth every penny I paid and is so quick to
setup. No need to spend ridiculously amounts of money on hotels and restaurants
in the highlands. When you can easily camp in the wilderness for free!!
Obviously, be responsible and considerate by following the Scottish Outdoor
Access Code.
Wild camping complements Munro-Bagging by making life easier for yourself. For
example, if I’m taking in a Multi-Munro route which is a considerable distance
from my house. I’ll drive up and camp the night before for an early start and to
guarantee a parking place. Even after the hike I’ll sometimes camp for a 2nd
night to prevent from travelling home in the dark and to see views on the way
home the following day. Therefore, turning what would have been otherwise a hike
into a 2 night camping trip with hike.
Escaping the hustle and bustle of the big city is such a stress reliever and is amazing to sleep under the stars!! It’s so convenient to find a camping spot after hiking and relax with a well-deserved couple beers. Really is a great place to unplug and make a connection with nature.
