first snowy munro – meall a’bhùiridh – 28th November 2021

Posted on 15/02/22 in munro-bagging

It was such a great and eventful day for my first Munro in the snow!! Words cannot describe how truly stunning the views were and so felt like a winter wonderland!!

The forecast was -14 degrees wind chill on the summit so was feeling apprehensive about the day. However, the hike couldn’t have started any better with seeing amazing wintry views of Buachaille Etive Mòr!!

While ascending, I honestly thought my record of reaching a Munro summit in my last 117 attempts was over. Since I started seriously collecting Munros in July last year.

There were no views when summiting Meall a’Bhùiridh though fortunately it wasn’t as cold as the forecast. When reaching Creise, the sky cleared and the views of Glen Etive were incomprehensibly beautiful (1st picture)!!! I just did not expect this at all!!

Headed back along the high bealach to Meall a’Bhùiridh to be greeted with the sun shining an orange glow on the mountains! Then caught the last couple mins of a magical sunset on the 3,635ft summit!!!

After the sun set, swiftly descended and reached the mountain bike track at 2000ft within 45mins. Darkness had fallen by this point so decided to take the long way down the mountain while admiring the incredibly beautiful dark sky landscapes!!!

Ironically did not have to use my headlight on the whole descent. Needless to say, I was feeling it on my legs after the relentless hike, as winter hiking requires more physical strength and energy.

It’s not a bad way to take in your first snowy Munro with watching a breath-taking sunset on the 3,635ft summit of Meall a’ Bhùiridh!!
